In an emotional ceremony Winter World Games Special Olympics 2009 is given by inaugurated February 9 Boise, Idaho ‘Thousands of fans welcomed over 2,000 athletes from 100 countries last Saturday at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho , during the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics World Winter Special Olympics. Inspired and organized by the multiple Emmy-winning director and producer Gary Smith, the Opening Ceremony was filled with music, celebration, protocol, and a warm welcome to the thousands of athletes and delegations that came to compete in this global platform in Idaho . The show features athletes whose talents were inspiring and applauded by all present, including a presentation of ‘Flame’ a band composed of people with physical and intellectual disabilities and a bugle and Special Olympics athlete Sujeet Desai. You participated in the ceremony as FERANDEZ Vivian de Torrijos, First Lady of Panama, Maria Shriver, First Lady of California, Darius Rucker, musician and artist, Kenny G, musician and artist, Scott Hamilton, Olympic figure skating athlete Bart Conner, Olympic gold medalist, Kristi Yamaguchi, Olympic figure skating athlete, Donna de Verona, Olympic swimmer, Casey FitzRandolph, Olympic athletes skating speed Tony Robbins, motivational speaker, Timothy Shriver, Chairman and CEO of Special Olympics, among others . The flame arrived in Idaho after a 3-month world tour, and 37 thousand miles through 13 cities on 5 continents. From the 7 to 13 February more than 2,000 athletes participated in seven sports including: Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoe race, speed skating and snowboarding. The representation of Latin America during These games will be composed of 15 delegations from: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela, making a total of 359 who will be competing in 6 of the 7 sports offered at these games. The wagon floor hockey and snowshoeing are the sports that provide the opportunity for athletes warm climates / tropics to participate in winter games.
